The Farm Energy Company, working alongside GSK, is pleased to announce the submission of its planning application for a new solar farm at a site close to the GSK Barnard Castle facility.
The Farm Energy Company and GSK are greatly encouraged that the vast majority of respondents to the community consultation recognised the need for GSK make efforts to decarbonise its operations.
The proposals will:
- Provide up to 52% of the total electricity needs of the GSK site in Barnard Castle
- Reduce the carbon footprint of GSK by over 85,000 tonnes of CO2 across its lifetime
- Support GSK’s ambition of achieving a carbon neutral value chain by 2045
- Alight with Durham Council’s aim to reach net zero by 2030, with a 90% real carbon reduction to emissions
- Create a Community Benefit Fund of £15k per annum, to support local initiatives and good causes
- Enhance biodiversity on the site, with new planting
- Retain use of the existing Public Right of Way and provide potential improved access to the railway
